Can't log in as admin

Post by Fetrovsky »

Hello,

I can't log in as admin. The system is rejecting my password, and I know it's correct because I use Google's password manager to save it. I can log in as normal user but not as admin. When I try to reset the password, I get a message saying "user does not exist". What can I do to recover administrator access to the NAS?

Thanks,

- Daniel

The database in your system files may be corrupted, Reboot your TNAS and try again. You can try to reboot and try several times.

Have you recently updated tos to v5/5.1?
Are you literally trying to login as 'admin' or an "admin user"?

F2-424 TOS7.0.0777 - 2x500GB nvme (P3) Traid, 2x6TB HDD (HGST) Traid

Yes, I updated to 5.1 (the watermark says 5.1.24-00324). And I am trying to log in as "the user called admin" and not "a user who is admin".

Thanks,

Thank you for the suggestion. I'm in the process of trying that, but since I tried several times and the "Verification Code" never seems to work, I need to give it a day or two of rest in order to go back to the normal login and be able to retry. Also, the forum doesn't allow me to post messages very close in time.

Thanks,

I was able to log in as my regular user. I have restarted the NAS several times (about 5) and I still can't log in as admin. When I look at the user list, admin isn't there. If I try to create a user with name "admin" or "Administrator", the system won't let me and will give me the message "Username is insecure!"

Read up on variations in use of admin and root accounts between tos4 and tos5.

Yes. Apparently, admin is no longer a user in TOS 5, so you need to use a normal user with admin privileges.
