Can I simply Delete Media Index Log via SSH?

Post by quella »

I have been having some issues with the media index (v5.1.33) and the process fails about a 1/3 of the way through with errors and it stops saying the indexing was completed, which it was not.

I have run the commands listed below (via SSH) to get the mediadb.log and media.log, but the media.log file is rather large to look through. Can I simply delete the two media log files in the /var/log directory and run a rebuild fro the GUI? I simply want to clear out the logs to make debugging of the issue much easier.

Commands to get logs for viewing:
cp -r /var/log/media.log /Volume1/public/
cp -r /var/log/mediadb/mediadb.log /Volume1/public/

You do not need to delete the database, you just need to rebuild the index, and the database will be overwritten. would you send us the log to check what stop the index to finish?

Thanks for the quick reply and follow-up. When I do a rebuild from the GUI, it does not seem to rewrite/overwrite the media.log file. If I download the log file after a rebuild, I still see log info from over a week ago. The file is currently 32.28mb in size. If it would be better, I can disable Indexing first, delete the log files, and re-enable the Indexing. Just did not want to break anything by removing these files. Thoughts?

If we do not know what reason the index stopped, another rebuild will not help, the same issue may happen again. would you send us the log to study?

the log told the photo "tumblr_ohk5bc5vhC1s299zxo1_1280.jpg" fails to add into index, would you send us this photo to check what's wrong with it?

So, the file that the scanner lists just prior to the stop event is the one that has an issues? I can take a look at that specific file, and run the index again. Earlier I did run a few indexes and it seemed to stop a a few different files. Maybe I will put them in a non-indexed folder until I can get a complete index. If I cannot seem to solve it, I will send you a few of the files for validation. Could it be an issue with the metadata found in that specific file?

Thank you.
