SOLVED (maybe) for anyone struggling in future I noticed that when I searched from the TNAS PC all the messages on the TNAS end, via a monitor plugged in, mention dchp conflicts. this made me do some googling about that 'no lease, switch to fork' thing, since it felt like the issue was leasing IPs. ...

I have powered down and unplugged router for a minute or two, waited for connection light upon restart, started NAS with no drives in it (three loud beeps again) and it still does not discover from TNAS PC on start up

Can't see how to edit my post, but i have realised I am slightly dim on one point - the IP I see in the on screen messaging when i search for the NAS from TNAS PC is the IP of the computer it is coming from.
So it can definitely see the search, but is not responding to it/responding to it correctly?

F2-221 not connecting to LAN
My F2-221, which has been working solidly for a couple of years, has just dropped off my network and will now not reboot fully. I have plugged an HDMI into the back and I can see it all starting up, but then the drives whirr down and it just sits there seemingly stuck on a line about clearing a quot...
