Applicable Models
D2-320,D4-320,D4-320U,D6-320,D5 Hybrid,D8 Hybrid,D9-320
Symptom
After the TerraMaster USB TDAS storage device has been correctly installed, file read/write operations may be frequently interrupted at random during data transmission.
Common Causes and Corresponding Solutions
Based on multiple rounds of testing and observation across different brands of Windows computers, we have summarized two common root causes and their troubleshooting methods. Please follow the steps below:
Cause 1: Issues with the Computer’s USB Ports or Connection Accessories
Some Windows PCs and mini PCs may have weak USB port signal output, incompatible USB drivers, or may be using non-original USB cables—all of which can lead to random interruptions during data read/write operations.
1.Adjust USB Port Usage
Prefer using the rear USB ports of the computer, as they typically provide more stable power and signal transmission than the front ports.
If the issue persists, test the device on another known-good computer to rule out hardware issues on the original PC.
oWhen needed, use a 10Gbps USB-A/USB-C hub or splitter with a short 0.3m or 0.5m cable to reduce signal loss.
2.Update USB Drivers
If the system is using a generic USB driver, it may not be fully compatible with the motherboard.
Visit the official support website of your computer’s manufacturer and download the model-specific USB driver.
3.Replace with Original USB Cable
Non-original USB cables may have inferior internal conductors or unstable signal performance.
It is recommended to use the original USB cable included with the device.
Cause 2: Incompatibility Between Old Hard Drives and RAID Configuration
For TDAS devices with RAID functionality, if previously used hard drives containing old data are installed, residual data or drive compatibility issues may cause read/write interruptions.
1.Test with New Hard Drives
Replace the drives with new ones and test whether the read/write operations function normally to determine if the issue lies with the old drives.
2.Rebuild the RAID Array and Reformat the Drives
(Important: This operation will erase all data on the drives. Please ensure that all important data is backed up in advance.)
Back up the data from the existing drives.
Reinstall the drives into the TerraMaster TDAS device.
Recreate the RAID array and format the drives to eliminate compatibility issues caused by previous data and configurations.
