Problems discovering NAS on network - F5-221

Hey all

I've just unboxed my new F5-221 and having issues getting things set up

I've gone through all the FAQs and the quick start guide but just can't get past step one!

I've put several HDD in to the unit, it currently has 3 out of the 5 bays active .. when I power on the unit the three LED lights for these drives goes green, all good so far I think!

I've plugged in the Ethernet cable to the unit ... I think this is working but not sure - the LAN LED on the front of the unit blinks green a few times every second, its not a solid green, guess that's good?

Next I go to set up the software and download TNAS, in the software I do a search and ... nothing, it just won't find the drive

I have a PC (Windows 8.1) and a Mac .. I've installed the software on both and same problem, I've also tried the mobile app (Android) but again same problem won't find anything

This was all on wireless, I've now plugged the Windows machine in via Ethernet so its hardwired to the same router as the F5-211 itself and re diid the search, same problem .. I've also swapped around the Ethernet cables to ensure that wasn't the issue .. the PC has connection to the internet with both cables but same problem

So I've run out of things to try, can anyone suggest something I can try next to get this set up?

the blinking green light sounds like its the problem, like its trying to get an IP address from your router but its failing to do this perhaps?

i can only go by what my F2-210 does which is solid green Lan and solid green Power, most of the time my HDD lights are solid but do flash with activity
however the lan does not flash

silly question, i believe theres two lan ports on the back of this unit, have you tried connecting the cable to the other port instead

Looks like its sprung in to life

I had a previously used HDD in the bay .. you're apparently on suppose to connect these 2 minutes after switching on

I thought I had done this but I popped out the wrong one meaning one was still connected .. ughh, that took me an hour to figure out! lol

ahhh nice one, fingers crossed its smooth sailing from now one

the only thing i want to mention is that firmware has gone through a few versions over the past couple of months (ive only had my unit 2 months) so i would advise making sure its upto date once its set up (4.1.31 is the lastest stable version)

After reading your original post I immediately thought "remove the drives, and reboot" :) but I was beaten to it.

I also have an F5-221 that I bought and configured within the last couple of weeks (love this thing), and I have a number of services running including a few docker containers. If you have any questions specific to that model, I'd be happy to help out in any way I can. I'm sure most of the TM x86 models work the same way, but if you ever wanted a like-for-like comparison, or to bounce something off someone with the same model, feel free.
