Constant disk activity

I received my F2-425 Plus last week. I upgraded the RAM to 32GB, installed two 256GB WD SN700 as system disks and two 18TB WD Red Pro in RAID 1 as Storage Pool 1. I then formatted the pool in EXT4 to create Volume 1 and copied about 10TB of data to it. There is no Hypercache. TOS is 6.0.783-01200. The only app installed is Web Server but it is not enabled.

The problem is that the HDDs keep chugging away at about 3% Write instead of going into hibernation after 30 minutes. Following the advice in an earlier similar thread, I used the pdstat command and captured the following:

Code: Select all

XXXXXXXX@Therver4:~# pidstat -d 3

Please could someone tell me what's going on and how to stop it.

If the current hard disk is performing a write task, it will not enter hibernation.
You can refer to the instructions in this post: viewtopic.php?t=473

Thanks for the pointer. The only thing that seems likely is that it's lazy initialisation so I'll give it another 12 hours to see if it finishes.

So it looks like it must have been lazy initialisation as the drives eventually stopped banging and went into hibernation.

After the drives have spent 30 hours synchronising, one does not expect them to need another 20 'initialising'. A proper downloadable user manual documenting this sort of thing would be very helpful.
