[Help] F4-423 Boot Failed

Hello    ,

I’m having serious issues with my TerraMaster F4-423 NAS. Here’s the situation:

My NAS was running TOS 5.1. One of the drives in my RAID degraded, so I replaced it. Unfortunately, I couldn’t rebuild or restore the RAID successfully.

I tried performing a factory reset, but it didn’t help. I am unable to create new volumes or use the system properly.

Then, I attempted to upgrade to TOS 6. After the upgrade, the NAS partially boots, but nothing loads. The system is basically unusable.

I also tried using the USB bootloader (USB_Initboot_UEFI-229), but it only works about 1 in 10 attempts. In the rare case it boots, I tried resetting again, but the NAS still doesn’t function properly.

At this point, I’m completely stuck and don’t know what to do next. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hello, is your system installed on an HDD or an M.2 SSD? Your issue may be related to residual old system partitions still present in the system.

It seems you have created the boot system for TOS 6. On the TOS 6 initialization page, you can choose which hard drive to install the system on. Please connect the NAS to a monitor and check if there are any error messages displayed on the monitor during startup.

Update.
Let's start by saying that I think it's simply unacceptable that there's no standard, universal, and secure procedure that won't drive you crazy, dealing with 1,000 versions of USB drives, missing files, and broken information or links. I paid over €500 for a NAS that's simply driving me crazy...

Anyway, this is the situation right now:
- I connected the NAS to my PC with a LAN cable
- I connected a monitor to my NAS
- I've made at least 200 attempts creating the USB drives with TOS5 .ins, TOS6 .ins, TOS5 bootloader .img, and TOS6 bootloader .img
- Only with the USB drive inserted with TOS6 ins does it start, I see the loading on the screen, and I can see the assigned IP address
- I log in from my browser and manage to start the installation. Obviously, the internet installation doesn't work even though I've connected the router, but that's fine.
- I run the installation locally, still with TOS6 .ins file, and it asks me if I want to erase my data. Obviously, I'm not going to be able to save about 15TB of stuff, but I've given up.
- The installation seems to go well and eventually restarts.
- After about 5 minutes, it freezes because it says initboot img not found. Surely i tried with and without USB still connected

I don't know if I'm more tired or discouraged. I've spent at least 20 hours on this thing and still can't fix it.
