2 Step verification for what, to login to the admin or to actually access data on the NAS drive?

it would be very frustrating if you had to either respond to an email or receive a text message every time you tried to access a network share on a computer (if windows allows this functionality)

Only for remote access, only to prevent unwanted logins

It is not required for local ip or to access shared resources.
