[Discussion] VPN on TNAS mobile

Hi,

when I installed TNAS mobile app, automatically it creates a VPN connection. BTW I didn't pay attention till someone told me that after this installation they discovered more battery consumption. So, I have few questions:

- What the VPN does, and basically which kind of information passthrough it on normal usage (data connection to the TOS, data connection to tnas.link or the whole mobile traffic)
- Is there a way to track active connection from the TOS?
- The VPN starts (it appears on top of the screen the key icon on Android) when launching the TNAS mobile, but when you close the APP the icon reamains. So it's necessary to close it manually. In this scenario is the connection still alive? is there a way to close automatically?

Thanks,

Thank you for your continued attention! Here are the responses to the questions you raised:

-The new version of the TNAS Online remote access function achieves network penetration through VPN technology, aiming to enhance the speed and stability of users' access to NAS.
-You can check the current status of some connection activities via the path [Control Panel] → [System Information] → [Online Users] in the TOS system.
-When you connect to your device through the TNAS Mobile app, the system will display a VPN icon. If the icon remains after you close the app, it's because the app is still running in the background and maintaining the connection. Currently, the system does not support automatic closure when the app is in a connected state. Regarding this issue, we will record your feedback and submit it to the product team. We will subsequently evaluate whether to optimize the management logic of the app's connection state to improve the user experience.

Thank you very much. So due most of the actions through mobile are viewing Photos or backups, I suggest to evaluate if make sense to close the connection after a timeout in case the app is not in the foreground and in synchronization mode. This should optimize the battery too.

How do I disable the VPN feature? I find it annoying that the VPN remains active unless the app is forcibly closed. I would rather the connection be slower/less reliable if it meant that my photos and videos were automatically backed up. Currently, it seems they are only backed up when connected to the VPN, which only triggers when the app is opened.

It has been found that some Android TNAS mobile clients fail to automatically disconnect from the VPN when exiting the app. We are currently working on identifying and resolving this issue.
Generally, you can find the TNAS mobile VPN switch in your phone's system settings under the network connection section.
