[Help] Folder encryption

Where can I read about folder encryption?
Where are the encryption keys stored, what algorithms are used and how?
All I can do is export the key.
Storing the key on the device is essentially the same as no encryption if someone who wants to decrypt the data has the device itself and its disks.

You can also store encryption keys on mobile devices or secure servers where they are not easily accessible.

Maybe I searched poorly and don't understand the interface. Although it's unlikely, I generally understand how it works in Syno. There I can either enter the key each time or save it to the storage, the second option makes minimal sense, it is not protected, it is not Apple Secure Enclave.
Independent forensic researchers write that TOS uses eCryptFS.
I created encrypted folders, but they are mounted automatically after reboot. Are there any additional settings? Can't I mount and unmount manually? The key is stored on the disk and is not particularly protected?

Regarding the encrypted shared folder, please note that its keys are not stored on disk—we recommend exporting and keeping them secure. To mount/unmount, simply select the encrypted folder in the shared folder list and click the "More" button.
