Hello,

I currently own a TerraMaster F5-221 NAS with a 2-core processor. It is running TOS 5.1.145, and I would like to upgrade to TOS 6 without losing any data.

What is the recommended procedure to safely perform this upgrade?

I have updated several F221s, by first updating to 6.0.4.20, then letting the auto updater do the rest. All systems worked out fine, no change/loss to data.

Did you have to recreate users or redo any other configurations after the upgrade?

My storage system is set up with TRAID. Did the upgrade process go smoothly with this configuration?

Additionally, you should ensure its compatibility with TOS6. Forcing an upgrade when it is incompatible may result in certain issues.

Some older models do not support the update to TOS 6 due to hardware limitations. These models include: F2-220, F4-220, F2-420, F4-420, F5-420, as well as F2-221, F2-421, F4-221, F5-221, F5-421, F2-422, F4-422, and F5-422, with BIOS versions of 5.12, MAPL0301V14, MAPL0302V13, MAPL0302V14, MAPL0303V14, MAPL0303V15, ,MAPL0304V14 and MAPL0304V15.

You can also determine compatibility by checking the date on the SN code. Models dated before July 2020 (xxx2007xxxxx) are not compatible with TOS6.

Sorry, but I think that is inaccurate. Surely '2007' represents WEEK 07 of 2020?
I have an old 221 which has a date code of 2017.
Unless your calendar has more months than mine

The code you provided does not appear to be the SN number of a NAS device. It is usually found on a label at the bottom. If you can't find it, you can also determine compatibility based on the BIOS version.

No, @TMzethar was correct; you posted the motherboard model number and its batch manufacturing identifier from a label on the inside of the enclosure.

The serial number of a F× series TNAS is on a sticker on the outside of the back of the unit, under the fan(s); that's where the deciphering of the manufacturer time period from multiple employee posts, applies.
