D5-300C How to correctly exchange HDD1,2 (raid1 config)

I own a win11 pc and have a D5-300C in raid1 configuration for several years now and the (8GByte) disks in drive1,2 are (almost) full.
Time to upgrade to 12GByte HDD.

I powered down and removed HDD2 and replaced it with a 12GByte Seagate (ironwolf pro).
I did not use raid manager or windows disk management (terramaster raid manager doesnt run on my pc)
Syncing (HDD1 led: green, HDD2: led orange, both LEDS flickering in sync indicating data transfer?)
The drive took about a full day (>24 hrs), and everything was working fine afterwards.
(granted at 8GByte - logically, I replaced only 1 drive).

Now up to replace HDD1 with a 12GByte disk. Here is where the issues started.
I thought I read that the D5-300C supported swapping HDD without power down --> so I removed and replaced HDD1 without power down.
HDD1 LED was on constantly orange - HDD2 LED (sorry I forgot), but it didnt seem to be synching. I could access the disk and read during this.

Powered off - and re-inserted the old (8GByte) HDD. Powered back on It now seems to be syncing (both HDD1 orange/HDD2 green are flickering syncronized). I will let it sync...

My questions:
- do I need TM raid manager? Or is this a nice to have?
- Any other people with issues on Win11?

- do i power off (after current synch job finished), and re-insert the 12GByte drive again?
- what is the proper procedure to swap both raid 1 drives?

Hi.
D5-300C does not support replacing two disks by two synchronization cycles to expand capacity and retain data.
Even after the operation is completed, the capacity of RAID1 is still 8T.
You can only backup your data and create RAID1 from scratch.
RAID Manager is not applicable to D5-300C, which does not require any control software.
Generally speaking, 1 green and 1 orange blink in RAID1 means that it is being synchronized.

Clear! Thank you for the detailed information. I will use the work around (use one of the raid drives as standalone HDD and start the raid from scratch with the new drives and copy all data over).

btw, it would be good if the manual of the D5-300C will get this information.
Many of us will start with a HDD size they will outgrow/and will want to upsize their RAID.
