Attempting to set Notification settings forces logout

Can someone please test this please? I can't set the SMTP server on the latest TOS version...

Model: F4-424 Pro
TOS Version: 6.0.610-00165

Process
1. General Settings > Notifications
2. Change radio button from "Local SMTP Server" to "Custom SMTP Server"
3. Enter SMTP Server, Port, Username, Password and Authentication Method
4. Click "Send a test email" (Apply is greyed out)

Result: You are then logged out of TOS, no test email is sent and changes are lost :(

Tested browsers
Brave
Microsoft Edge

After filling in the information and applying it, the Apply button will be grayed out unless you have new changes.
Which email service provider are you using?
Have you used this feature on the previous system version?
Please try to send a test email again. After sending, please note that there will be a prompt on the page indicating the sending or receiving results.

Hi @TMWuu thanks for the prompt reply

>>After filling in the information and applying it, the Apply button will be grayed out unless you have new changes.

Thanks for confirming this behavior. This is similar to what i remember in TOS5.

>>Which email service provider are you using?

SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com
Post: 587
Auth: TLS/SSL

Google KB (app password): https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833?hl=en
Google KB (smtp settings): https://support.google.com/a/answer/176600?hl=en

>>Have you used this feature on the previous system version?

Yes, this worked fine on TOS5. First you had to send a test email then the apply button would enable for you to be able to click Apply if TOS could perform a send operation without error internally.

I just re-tested again (in Brave and Edge). The behavior is slightly different now. When I click "Send test email" I'm no longer being logged out but instead the "Authentication method" drop down box resets from "TLS/SSL" to "---" and nothing happens. What used to happen in TOS5 was that either you would get a Green status text "Success" or a Red error text "Failed" if i recall correctly. If it was Green you could then proceed to press "Apply".

I'm so confused! I just re-tested it again and was logged out. To answer your question the redirect took me to: https://<NAS IP>:5443/tos/#/desktop where it said "click anywhere to login"

Do you log out immediately every time you click "Send Test Email"?
You can log in to the terminal through SSH, execute the command

Code: Select all

cat /etc/.default.sys
, and then send us a screenshot of the output information for inspection.

Yes, as soon as I click the "send test email" it takes me to the blue pack with the animal picture with "TOS has logged out! Click Anywhere on the screen to try again". I click that and i'm straight back to TOS Web Desktop.

Code: Select all

# cat /etc/.default.sys
[system]
defaultgwdev      = eth0
checkAndDownload  = 1
disk_write_cache  = 0
bb_notify_enabled = 1
smart_test_report = 0
Fanspeed          = 8
Autofan           = 0
PowerSet          = 1
What is this checking?

Are you able to recreate the same issue?

First... I'm not retyping all that. If you want me to add that to my file you'll have to get the content in the code block first please. The room for typo errors is too large. A screenshot is not the correct way to give me this data.

Second... I'm not doing that unless you tell me what this file does... this is a production device. Some of those settings are not correct for my locality for example the timezone setting. Some other settings sound quite serious, such as the default ethernet device.

Third... Please answer my question - have you attempted to recreate this behavior by performing the steps I've given you? On a similar device + TOS version?

It seems that this is caused by incomplete configuration file information. This problem is almost impossible to reproduce in our lab. If possible, we can check this problem for you remotely.

How might making this change affect my device? When is this configuration file used by TOS? It has a filename that includes the word "default" within it, so is this config file only read during install or more often then that?

Could you not simply change your SMTP settings to use local mode. Then edit your file and attempt to change to whatever SMTP server you have available to you? If you don't have one, use a Google Account like I am to make an App Password ... i gave you the KB for that above and try the same settings.

Try entering the custom setting, then click 'apply', then send a test email. That seemed to be the change when I tested it yesterday. You HAVE to enter your password and set 'TLS/SSL' every time (I remarked on that previously in another thread.)
