Hi everyone,

I'm planning to purchase an F6-424 Max NAS and have a few questions about the best setup.

Here is my planned configuration:

2 x 1TB NVMe drives
4 x 8TB HDDs
I intend to use this NAS primarily as storage for 4K video files. Ideally, I’d like to edit directly on the NAS using DaVinci Resolve. However, if that’s not feasible, I plan to transfer the raw footage quickly to a local drive, edit it, and then move the finished project back to the NAS for long-term storage.

My main question is about system installation and cache setup:

Should I install the NAS OS on one of the 1TB NVMe drives and use the second NVMe for hypercache?
Or would it be better to install the OS on the 8TB HDDs and dedicate both NVMe drives to hypercache?

I’d appreciate any insights or recommendations from those with experience in similar workflows. Thanks in advance!

This is a good way to speed up system respond and data transfer. BUT a SSD to hold system requires much better write durability, please make sure your SSD good enough.

Two SSD hypercache can be set to RAID 0 or RAID 1, if 1TB cache is good enough for you, then a RAID 1 hypercache will improve your data safety.

I have one more question regarding the SSD setup:
If the system is installed on an SSD and that SSD fails, does that mean I won’t have a way to recover the data easily? Would it also make it challenging to restore the NAS to normal operation?

If you have TOS on nvme you will (likely) have Volume1 (the default) also on nvme which (likely) also includes any apps you have installed (the default) and you '/home' folders if you choose to enable them.

As far as TOS goes, a "loss" of that is relatively easy to replace by re-installing. With a 'save configuration' backup of the installed version you can regenerate( some of) your setup.

It all depends on options chosen for your particular setup.

Yes I have had the information that the /home risks prematurely tiring my ssd.
As a beginner with this type of product, I am looking for the compromise between flow and stability of the system.

If the SSD fails, and you do not have any backup, you will loss everything including system and your data. In any case, backup your data. Terramaster provide rich free backup sulotions.

You're talking about only the data stored on the System Drive SSD possibly being lost and not the TRAID Array, right?
