Upgrading TOS 4 to TOS 6 for F4-423

Hi,
I am having 2 16TB drives configured in RAID 1. I want to upgrade from TOS 4 to TOS 6 but due to the difference in system size, the upgrade cannot be done automatically. What I read is that I need to back up data, then do fresh installation of TOS 6 (which will format my drives). I have no extra drive to back up data, therefore, I would like to know if I do as below, does it work?
- Remove drive 2 from F4-423.
- Do fresh installation of TOS 6 on drive 1, which will format the drive
- After installation, insert drive 2 back to F4-423, copy data from drive 2 back to drive 1
- Format drive 2, configure the system as RAID 1.

Thank you and I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Hello! Based on your requirements, directly upgrading to TOS 6.0 is not feasible. To ensure the safety of your data migration, you will need an additional disk for backup.

Here are the steps to ensure safe data migration:

1. Data Backup: First, please find an additional idle disk or use a network storage solution (such as the SMB protocol) to back up all your data on TOS 4. This step is crucial to prevent any data loss.

2. Upgrade Path Selection:
First method: You can follow the detailed steps provided on the official forum (viewtopic.php?t=6984) to gradually upgrade from TOS 4.2 to TOS 5.0, then to TOS 5.1, and finally to TOS 6.0.

Second method: Alternatively, you can create the latest USB Initboot tool (viewtopic.php?t=6433) to directly install TOS 5.1, and then upgrade to TOS 6.0 afterward.
Please ensure that you carefully read and follow the instructions at each step to avoid any potential errors or data loss. If you encounter any issues during the upgrade process, it is recommended that you promptly consult the official documentation or contact technical support for assistance.
