Factory Reset did not get rid of all user data

Hi eveybody,

I'm asking here because it's been days since I tried to fix my issue. I have a TNAS : F5-221. My problem is that when I tried to update it from 4.2 to 5.1. it worked but get rid of all my user. I tried to create new user for my family and it always says : "user already exist", even though they do not in the system that I can see. I tried also multiple factory reset, multiple installation of different version between 5.0 and 5.1 the TOS and can't get rid of that. it always have the admin and guest. but if I trie to create a user like : bryan, it said it already exist (because, before all those update, it was existing, but i thought that Factory reset would reset it)

So I'm now trying to format all the Hard drive, backup my data before on other drive of course and will try an ultimate reset factory, hoping it will finally do a real reset factory. but I'm worry that if I do that, it will have the same problem as I'm thinking that it could be like and internal backup in the NAS itself and not in the hard drive.

if anyone has any idea for my problem ?

There are no update packages available for TOS4 to TOS5. To upgrade to TOS5, you need to reinstall TOS using the installer.
For details, please refer to: viewtopic.php?t=3358
If you want to update to higer TOS 5 version, please refer to:

Hello, Yes I follow all the instructions to install the TOS 5 properly with all the resetpossible.

ANYWAY, I was able to fix my issue by copying all my data to other drive, format all HDD then reinsert them to the NAS and reinstall again the TOS 5.
So good note : If you use the factory reset, it does NOT get rid of some data on the hard drive, it still keeps some old data of the 4.2 and the TOS 5 is ablo to read that.

Thanks for that note and hope it does help other in the future that will have that problem :)

You fixed that problem, congratulations. Did you encounter any problems during the recovery process?
