BIOS boot order - trying out other OS without dismantle

Hi all, I tried searching everywhere but no one posted about entering the BIOS, changing secure boot to DISABLE and to CSM to change the boot order when installing different NAS OS.

I wonder if its possible to try out other OS and use the USB port behind the unit, change the boot order to boot from the my USB with different NAS OS and avoid dismantling the unit.

What is your TNAS model? If you don't find relevant options, maybe you can check out the following:

Regardless of anything else, if you are planning to use another os, you would probably be wise to remove the internal usb flash drive and preserve it. In which case dismantling may well be required (As in my F2-424; The drive is impossible to remove without some work.)

Will there be a chance that the USB inside will get overwritten? Does the USB that contains TOS bootloader also registers as a storage when setting up NAS OS? Why would you want to preserve the old outdated bootloader?

In case its overwritten in some ways, how is it different from the download page from the specific units download page? Can you just not download the bootloader and put it back to the USB? And only this time you might require dismantling the unit

I have no idea what other os installations might do (deliberately or accidentally) to the internal usb. After TOS6.0.229 the TOS usb is overwritten and it is not directly reversible should you want/need to (re-)install an earlier version. So I have a couple of flash drives prepared for the earlier versions as backups. Although there are bootloader files published on the support pages I don't believe these are the same as the image files required for the usb. (which were linked to within this forum).

Thanks for the reminder Gremlin, I will also make a backupof the current TOS 5 before they roll out TOS 6 just in case. I will also remove the internal USB to be safe.

With all that said, I'm still curious to know if it is possible to disable Secure Boot, do CSM and change boot order to boot from the USB port behind the f4-424 pro unit to avoid dismantling the unit with each try of NAS OS.

Yes, I pretty sure secure boot is/can be disabled.
There is an option in bios (sic) "UTOS boot first" which can be disabled.
Boot order can be changed.
However, I have not tested these to any extent.

Ok thanks Gremlin, let's see what Terramaster technical support has to say about if its possible to change the boot order of F4-424 pro as nothing is documented yet.

Hi TMRyan,

Can i please get steps and procedure to change boot order for F4-424 pro for using USB port behind the unit instead of using the internal USB port?
