Adding New Drive to Storage Pool

I currently have a 12T HDD running with TRAID and I want to add another HDD to the Storage pool. I added my other HDD (10TB) and it recognizes it, but when I try to add it to the existing pool, the option is greyed out.

I am new to the whole NAS thing, so forgive my ignorance as I'm figuring this out as I go. I'm probably doing something wrong, or thinking about it incorrectly.

Not sure if it's because it's a smaller drive than the first, or if I need to create it as a volume first, or I just need to create a new storage pool for that new drive. I'm totally lost here. I don't mind having them as single drives but would be nice if I could do it as one pool without losing data on the first drive. Any idea what's going on?

Thanks

The TRAID takes the smallest disk at the time the TRAID was originally created as the base capacity. If the smallest disk used when creating the TRAID is less than 10TB, then your 10TB can be added to the TRAID without any problem; however, if the smallest disk used when creating the TRAID is 12TB, then 10TB will not suffice.
Please use a larger disk to join the TRAID. or if you want to utilize your existing disk as much as possible, you may consider backing up your data and rebuilding the TRAID using HDDs disks including 10TB disks.

Okay, make sense.

So follow-up question, because I may have done something really dumb. I had to factory reset the whole thing and start over, but I backed up everything to another drive I had on the NAS. I then took it out of the NAS and formatted the first drives. Once I did that, I put the drive back in, but it's not reading it as the volume. I would have to erase it for it to add the volume back and I need those files. Is there anything I can do or did I just lose everything?

Have you completed the backup of the data in the 12T hard disk to another hard disk? If the backup is completed, you can format it and recreate storage and volumes. I don't quite understand. By "put the hard disk back in place", do you mean the 12T hard disk or the hard disk after data backup?

I have a different question about adding a new drive. If I need to start a new thread, let me know.

I had 3 12TB drives (BTFRS) in my F4-424 in a TRAID and am adding a new 12TB to bay 4. When I put the drive in, the system recognizes the drive and I can go through the set up process to configure the new drive. When I hit Confirm, the system spins for a couple minutes and then that dialog disappears. My storage pool still has the same amount of storage and still lists the 3 initial drives in its drop down. The Hard Drives tab shows the 4th drive. I can hear the system working and I can see that all of the drive lights are flashing but there is no indication of how the process is going. Why is there no status or loading indicator for this process? Is it working? There are no logs in the Hard Drive Logs of the process starting or ending.

Following up, I have tried the add process again and now it doesn't seem to want to work at all. I get to the last screen of the add process with the Confirm button and sometimes I click the button and it flashes but doesn't do anything. Other times I click it, it shows a spinner on the button for a few moments and then the button goes back to the active state (Blue and says Confirm). I closed the window to see if starting over would fix it but now the Control Panel window with the Edit Storage Pool dialog appears to be frozen. It's dark gray with a blue spinner and doesn't respond to input. The rest of the system seems to respond to input just fine.

What version is your TOS? You can try restarting TNAS and inserting a new hard drive again. If it still doesn't work, you can try contacting our technical support team for remote inspection.
