iSCSI target used in second location as a mapped network drive?

I'm looking into iSCSI for the first time and the first rule seems to be not to use the same target on multiple computers. Does this rule also apply if you map the drive on another computer instead of using iSCSI? I want to use a local drive as an iSCSI drive on a VM running on my server but also have network access to it from my workstation.

You can use the same iSCSI Target on multiple computers, but you need to ensure data consistency and avoid conflicts. If multiple initiators attempt to write to the same storage area simultaneously, it may lead to data corruption or other unpredictable problems.
If mapping a drive on another computer without using iSCSI is not applicable, as there is no use of iSCSI protocol when a local drive is directly mapped or mounted on another computer.

No, the rule about not using the same iSCSI target on multiple computers does not apply if you are accessing the storage via file sharing protocols like SMB or NFS instead of using iSCSI directly.
