Migrate from F5-221 to F4-423

Post by mmalchuk »

I have F5-221 with 4x4Tb TRAID/BTRFS and bought a new F4-423.
  1. Can I simple insert all the disks from F5-221 into the F4-423 without lost of data?
  2. Is it possible to add M2 SSD disks later and move TOS from disks to ssd's ?
  3. Is it possible to add HyperCache on M2 SSD later? how many M2 SSD's do I need ? one for TOS, second for HyperCache? Or any combination of them?
  4. My F4-423 with 8GB memory, but I'm want to upgrade it to 16GB adding new 8GB SODIMM. Doing so could I increase the size of existing HyperCache? Or I need to replace M2 SSD's with bigger size?

Please find answers to your questions:
1. If your F5-221 is running TOS 5, then you can directly plug in your drives to F4-423, and reboot the device, your TNAS will work.
2. No, in TOS 5 you are not able to dedicate the specific disks for the system.
3. Yes, you can add Hyper cache for your volumes after you update to F4-423 if you are running TOS 5.
4. As Hyper cache consumes memory, bigger memory will allow you to create a bigger size cache.
