How do use backup?

Post by KWguy »

I am new to networking and have just purchsed two NAS devices to run for my Plex server and I am in the midst of setting everything up.

My Plex is on a F4-423 and I will to use a F4-210 to backup everything.

Do I use Duple Backup or TFM Backup or both together for this?

I tried to set a task in Duble Backup between the two NAS but it did not work the way I entered everythng.

I wasn't sure about the backup type so I used Volume.

For Device Type I choose Server, For Destination type I choose Remote TNAS Device.

To create the connection I used the IP address of the F4-210, for the Port # I used what was there 5443, for the username and password I used what I have set up for the F4-210.

When I press the Connect button I get an error message that says to check what I have typed in and nothing happens.

Can someone point me in the right direction to get this working please? Thank you.

Can you run Rsync server on the 210? That should, with Rsync client on the 423, to do what you want. (And can run in different modes).

I checked and both the 210 and 423 have Rsync. Thank you.

In trying to set up Rsync, it has passed the connection test from my 423.

But I don't know how to make the 210 visible as a destination for it? There is nothing to click on in the directory section that points to it.

Also, the Source isn't showing my media files (TV and Movies Folders) All I see is a choice between /Volume1/Public and /Volume1/Plex. And the Plex folder is only the server software.

My TV and Movie folders are under the section of my NAS that is the same name as my username. Did I put these in the wrong place?

Not something I use every day so I would have to scratch around. Does sound a bit like permissions issues.

In order for my F4-423 to be able to see the F4-210 on the network, do these need to somehow be mapped on each NAS?

Regarding my backup questions, I have been doing some Google searching.

I would appreciate if someone could yay or nay my sumations.

[*]In order to see the F4-210 backup NAS from my F4-423 I need to share something on the 210. Currently it is fresh out of the box and I haven't shared anything. Not exactly sure how to do this either.
[*]All of my Plex media folders on the 423 are in the section named after my username. I think I need to move these folders over to the Public or Plex folders.

You need to go to your 210's TOS control panel>File Services>Rsync server, enable Rsync service, and set the authorization directory.
When connecting to the Rsync server of 210 on your 423, please use the Rsync port to connect it.

Thanks for your reply. I'm newbie to networking and need more details. When I go to the 210 and review the authorization directory, I see /Public and /App Data. Which one do I choose?

I am not familiar with 210, but I presume it is running TOS4.??? something. You probably need to create one or more shared folders to act as the repository for your backup. You can access the TOS4 help files to provide more information. [Sorry I don't have more time but my TO6Beta test system decided to have a brainf*** in the night and I'm still trying to figure that out and recover. ]

I am trying to follow these instructions. I turned on the Rsync server on the 210, but on m y 423, when I create the Backup task I can't see the 210 in order to back up my files there.
