F5-421 Ethernet Adapters Disappear

This is not a new issue, but I recently rebuilt my NAS from scratch to 5.1.67 and had hoped this might resolve my issue at the same time
F5-421 has 4 ethernet adapters all cabled to dumb switch
On initial build I can see all 4 nics and successfully create a bond
But on subsequent reboots I lose eth3 then eth2 ending up with a bond of 2, eth0 & eth1
I have scanned my system and can find no reference relating to eth2 or eth3
'/etc/network' contains details for them, but that is it
If a new firmware gets applied, all 4 nics will reappear but then disappear again after a couple of reboots
It's not the end of the world as only used for Plex, but very frustrating when the nics can/do work but disappear
I notice new hardware doesn't come with 4 nics anymore, so assume this might be a known problem
Any advise on getting nics re-added please?
