Is it going to be easy to move to or are there going to be the same issues as with TOS5?

The real win for TOS 6 would be a seamless update process and installer that has ability to resize system partition. Way to much headache to go from 5.0 to 5.1 with the 2GB to 8GB change.

Like other recent TOS releases, this will use the current LTS build of the Linux kernel, correct? TOS 6 should be based off Linux LTS kernel 6.1.×?

The first insider builds were made available in
late 2021 & 5.1 betas came out at the
end of 2022, even TOS 4.2 builds started in
late 2020, so they essentially have releases in the last quarter of the year for new major builds … it's become their unofficial release timeframe.

The newer 8 GB system partition is likely a prerequisite to upgrade, so hopefully a verification script/step is added for in-place updates through an existing TOS setup to prevent 2 GB system partition setups from proceeding; 5.1.× (which requires the larger system partition) is probably the minimum requirement to upgrade.
The initboot/install wizard really could benefit by adding the ability to secure erase a drive or multiple drives without having to SSH onto the uninitialized NAS for fresh/clean installations.

Apple dropped Mac OS X feline codenames/branding almost a decade ago in late 2013 with the release of Mavericks (10.9) …

To update to TOS 6, your TNAS needs to meet minimum requirements, or your update will be stopped.
