F5-221 & Ext USB

Hi all

I hope someone who is more experienced than me can help me out please.
F5-221
TOS 4.2.402203011626
The 5 Bays are all full with various sized HD's working fine and I can map the 5 hard drives into windows.
Today I added a 6TB Seagate external USB. It shows in TOS control panel under 'External Storage' as NTFS / Good. I have tried to map the external drive (usbshare1) in windows and I get an error message in windows that says 'The network folder specified is currently mapped using a different username and password.'
So far I have reformatted the drive, tested in TOS file manager I CAN add files and folders to the drive, checked permissions for the 'admin' (although these cannot be changed; they are greyed out).

I do not know what I am doing wrong. I am very reluctant (based on the amount of posts I have read) to upgrade to TOS 5 so please please please do not suggest that to me because it frightens the **** out of me, I would rather just buy into another brand and ditch Terramaster altogether :o

So if anyone has any suggestions please get back to me; it's probably something easy for you guys and I would be eternally greatful.

Cheers, Martin.

I have the same model NAS and I'm having trouble getting my external USB 3.0 drive mounted. How did you get yours to mount? Did you just plug it in? Mine won't recognize. Let me know and I will experiment on how to map it. Thanks.

TOS 4.2.40 does not support mounting USB devices to the computer. You can try to reinstall to TOS5.0.176 and then manually update to TOS5.1.24.
You can also reinstall the older version TOS4.2.32 which supports this feature. But this will expose you to many problems which have been fixed in the newer version.

I finally got my drive mounted. It would only mount when connected to the USB slot closest to the fan. It would not mount at all when plugged into the outer most slot. Go figure...

Hi

Thanks for your reply but I am not going to upgrade to TOS5. Like I said in my original post I do not feel comfortable doing that, I have read too many posts where people have had problems doing this.
I have approximately 40TB in the NAS, the risk of losing some this doing and reinstalling all the apps after the upgrade is not worth the hassle so I will leave things as they are.

Thanks for the advice anyway.

Martin.
