I can add my onvif compliant camera but get no live view, when I try to watch recordings they also don't play although he is recording and the image shows up on the thumbnail

any suggestions?

Can you provide a screenshot? If you are viewing real-time images, you can drag the camera icon from the list on the right to the left display box.

I have figured out that the resolution is capped in terramaster surveilance application to 1920x1080 so when i changed resolution from 2k to 1920x1080 i got live feed. despite camera being 2k.

it seems that once live feed is enabled ( by changeing to 1920x1080 ) then you can switch back to 2k and the live feed will work xD so its only needed to start the camera it seems odd.

Surveillance Manager supports 2k cameras.
1. If you do not modify the camera resolution through the application and no video, the setting synchronization may not be successful. Manually connecting the camera can solve the problem.
Operation guide: Camera -> Edit -> Enter account and password -> Test connection
2. If you modify the camera resolution in the app and no video, you can refresh the browser, reopen the live image, and automatically reconnect.
