Newbie innocent questions

hi there.
I'm the proud owner of a D5 Thunderbolt 3 DAS using it with macOS Catalina.
I've set my previous disks into caddies flawlessly, so far so good.
3 of them was used as JBOD. (1 SSD for data and 2 for TimeMachine alternate backups)
2 of them was RAID0 software formatted with DiskUtility.
I've not yet installed any software or drivers.
All drives mounted without any problems including RAID0 2 disks.
I've 4 questions :
1) My actual RAID 0 is MacOS Software Raid. If I use hardware raid will speed access improve greatly ? (I understand it needs erase first)
2) If this is a hardware raid why do I need a driver ?
3) If I hardware RAID 0 my 2 TimeMachine disk, will it be usable within TimeMachine as one disk ? (currently impossible with a software Raid).
4) Without any further installation (as is) my D5 is just in JBOD mode right now ?
Thank you and kind regards
Philippe
