WARNING!
1.Since the new version of TOS 5.1 system requires more storage space, if your initial system was TOS 4.x and system partition is 2GB, please do not update to this version.
If you do not meet the conditions but want to use TOS 5.1.40, you can refer to the following:viewtopic.php?f=28&t=4912
2.There is an error in the encryption mechanism of encrypted folders created on TOS 5.1.37, which prevents them from being decrypted in later versions. Therefore, if you are using TOS5.1.37, before updating TOS, please back up the data in the encrypted shared folder, and then delete the encrypted folder. (Only need to deal with the encrypted shared folder created in TOS5.1.37, other encrypted Shared folders are not affected by this)

To check the free space of your system partition,
Go to "TOS > Control panel > System Info > Overview", and check free space from the item of "/" .

Important Notes
  • The kernel of TOS 5.1 has been updated to 5.15. Since the Linux kernel has removed the Intel Celeron J1800/J1900 GPU drivers from 5.15, the models of this platform no longer support GPU hardware video acceleration. If you are a user of this series of models and need to use GPU hardware video acceleration, do not update TOS 5.1! Models involved: F2-220/F2-420/F4-220/F4-420/F5-420
  • Under normal circumstances, the system update will not affect the data in your hard drives, but for your data safety, it is strongly recommended that you back up your data before the update!
How to update your TOS?

Manual update:
1. Download the update package: TOS 5.1.40 (md5:6cafb07381db705f354a2c7fe1e99127)
2. Go to TOS > Control Panel > General Settings > system;
3. Under the "Manual update", upload the update package;
4. Click "Apply";
5. After the system update is complete, you need to refresh your web browser;
6. Your TNAS's IP address may change after the system update, if you are not able to connect to your TNAS with the previous IP, you need to search the new IP again with the TNAC PC client;

TNAS PC:
After updating to TOS 5.1.40, you need to update your current TNAS PC to 5.0.33 or a later version, or you may not able to search your TNAS device.

I have made the update. It looks like the fan problem is gone, although it doesn't show up in the bug fixes above.
The media display no longer works. The media index is on and I also get a message that it has been created. But neither the VLC app nor my TV can find the NAS. DLNA/UPnP are switched on. What do I have to do so that the NAS is found?

To enable DLNA, you need to install the Media Server app, and enable the DLNA in Media Server app.

Of course I have installed and activated the Multimedia Server App. I came from TOS 5.1.37. It worked then. But now it no longer works.
I have already tried many things:
- Created a new Media Index
- Multimedia Server App uninstalled, reinstalled and activated.
- UPnP at "Discovery Senice" deactivated / activated.
My devices no longer see the NAS and I can't view the stored images.

It's terrible. With every update, something no longer works. And I don't use any unusual functions, just SMB and Media Index. These are absolute basics.

That clinches it I am sticking with 5.1 34 at least I can see my NAS via TV!

You can't imagine how much useless time I spent with this Terramaster NAS. An update should bring improvements and not destroy functions that used to work.
Now I have to go back to 5.1.37. This can only be done by resetting to factory settings. Thank you very much.

5.1.40 installed OK
Agree fan issues appear resolved (auto speed ok)
Agree Media server is not appearing on network. (Media server enabled, media index enabled, upnp on/off, webdav on/off)

According to Multimedia Server app notes DLNA server is automatically installed. The presumption is that it is also auto enabled when Media server is enabled. I don't see any specific mkethod of enabling DLNA server.
