Re: TOS 4.2.43(ARM) is Released for Update
Please update to TOS 5, I know you can do it. Greetings.

It's not likely to happen.
RealTek would need to provide updated drivers for the newer kernel, which they haven't done for any NAS device manufacturers (every other RTD1296 based NAS is also stuck on Linux 4.× kernels).

If you want it can be done. And also the app compatible with f2 210 is very bad... I only see problems, although if they wanted they could improve.

I do not have the necessary knowledge to implement TOS 5 on nas f2 210, in that case I would not be writing here.crisisacting wrote: ↑17 Jan 2024, 16:06Go ahead & do it yourself because you are likely never going to get it from Terra-Master.
Just relegate 210 series devices as secondary or tertiary backup on your backup solution.
But I don't think it will cost the terramaster team too much to update this nas, or at least give the option of installing other software on the nas like OMV or similar.

I posted a reply in that way one day, but it got deleted by admins
Cartainly it contained to much truth
Now we are sure we have a brick that costed like 200$
The best move would give the choice to user :
Staying on unmaintened software with T OS 4.2.43
Or voiding warranty and making possible to install (with no way back) another OS (like OMV but with security patches ... )
Just to remind Terra Master nice team, for exemple actually the F*-210 is violating the libnet licence update that have been done last year (ALL, i really say ALL, even debian ltsc , have updated the libnet and libipv4, but TOS is maybe beyond the law)
PS : Deleting my post would proove what i'm saying, you don't want people to know you decided to deprecate a very nice and atractive NAS

Re: TOS 4.2.43(ARM) is Released for Update
it is a tough decision i suppose, one that gets easier to swallow as my unit gets older for example this year my F2-210 will be 4 years old and does just sit in a comms cabinet and work, does everything i need it to do (its got no access into it from the router) so i guess technically theres no real issue with it not being updated anymore and if i want a newer one then newer hardware will be needed
the unit brand new i believe was around £150 GBP so its cost £37.50 per year or £3.12 per month if i dont replace it for another year it will be £30 per year or £2.50 per month etc

Yeah m'y F2-210 IS working well too
But, having an OS with no security patch and even with legal update (i mean take a look AT the licence change of libnet, it IS an obligation to update it, because actually the libnet wich IS our NAS IS not legal...) IS risky...
