Dead NAS after 5.1.37 Update

Good evening all,
I have an F2-220 that I just updated to 5.1.37. I've done consecutive updates after a clean install when 5.x first came out. It was sluggish, so I did a reboot within the web OS. After about 10 minutes, nothing happened. Lights green except LAN was off.
Did a hard reset after an hour. Power LED green, HDD 1 and 2 both red.
Powered off. Removed both drives. Power on. Same thing. Power LED green. HDD 1 and 2 both red.
I've been browsing Reddit and the TerraMaster forums, and have come to the conclusion that the initBoot may be at fault, but I am unsure as to how this would happen from a system update.
Upon opening the chassis, I found that the fan connector and internal USB are absolutely doused in glue. What is the recommended way to go about replacing this flash drive? And if I manage to do so without damaging any of the internal components, are all of the configurations stored on the drives themselves?
Please advise. I am skeptical, as some of the responses are simply to replace the unit, as mine is out of warranty now. Thank you.
