After several days, I managed to wipe my system drive and reinstall TOS 5.0.176 with an 8GB system partition!
Then upgraded to TOS 5.1

Now I'm back at square one with the drives all churning, TOS inaccessible, TNAS PC won't detect the NAS, despite the router confirming that it's on the network.

Which version of 5.1 did you upgrade to? Did you observe the upgrade paths (limitations) shown in the release notes for each version?

For example 5.1.37:
This update is only for TOS 5.1.33 or later versions.
F5-221 5.1.123, 8GB System Partition on 3 x 4TB Traid; 3TB EXT4
F2-221 TOS6 (Beta), 8GB System Partition on 2 x 6TB in Traid. (Latest Update 11/04/24)

If only I could log in and check.
I upgraded to the version that TOS recommended to me, and it said it was suitable for upgrading from 5.0.176

Surely TOS wouldn't update functionality wouldn't offer upgrades to incompatible versions, would it? :o

I don't know. My understanding was that TM had not rolled out auto-update on TOS5.1 and that all updates had to be done via manual download and update. Maybe something changed.

I upgraded from 5.0.176 not from 5.1.
However the problem I'm experiencing occurred on 5.0.176 as well. so I don't believe it was the upgrade that caused it.

you said
Over the last two days my F5-221 on TOS 5.1 has entered periods where it becomes unresponsive.
That was the first line of first post in this thread. You are not helping yourself if you now say you had the problem BEFORE upgrading.

you said:
I've unplugged all the HDDs apart from the System drive.
How exactly are/were your drives configured? "System Drive" may be my misunderstanding. It appears again ....

you said:

Which package did you use to perform the installation?

Thanks for your help Gremlin, sorry, I'm trying my best! It's been a bit of a roller coaster over the past week or so!

OK, I've got a 1TB drive which the System Partition is on and I install apps on, that's what I'd refer to as the "System Drive".
Then I've got four 10TB drives which are individual disks on EXT or BTRFS (could have been better planned I know!) and just contain media.

I reinstalled TOS using TOS_X642.0_5.0.176_00227_2210111430.ins
From the Support download page:
https://support.terra-master.com/downlo ... ct=F5-221

I checked the system partition had been created at the larger size before updating to TOS 5.1

I take it the drive you refer to as 'system' is in the first slot (next to the buttons/leds)? Just trying to orientate myself!
When you re-installed did you have just your 'system' drive installed without the others?
How was your 'system' drive formatted?
Did you wipe the media drives? I suspect not, but I think I can see what you were trying to do. (And, sorry to say, I don't think it was ever going to work.)

I'd have to agree  From what I understand you have no redundancy on your nas in the event of drive failure. Just to be certain: None of your media drives are in raid format?

Are you able to access your nas via sh/ssh/telnet/whatever? You (or support staff) may need to take a look at exactly what is on each drive. I have this feeling that the os is looking for something which just isn't there (or is confused) due to way the drives are organised.
