Troubleshooting
Applicable models: all models
If your hard drives are idle over a preset time, they will go into hibernation. But certain conditions, including volume status, services, apps, will prevent your TNAS from entering hibernation mode or wake up your TNAS from hibernation mode from time to time.

Important Note
- For the newly set file system, it will take about 24 to 48 hours to do journal and balance for the btrfs file system, it will take about 12 to 24 hours to do lazy initialization for the ext 4 file system, during this time, your drive will not able to hibernate. The actual time required depends on the drive capacity. If you have copied big volume of file to your TNAS, the journal and balance going to take longer. To know more about journal and balance https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Btrfs
- During drive hibernation, the drive indicators will stay on;
- To confirm if your drive is in hibernation, touch the device body with your hand. if you don't feel any viberation, your drives may be in hibernation.
Volume Status
- Volume degraded / crashed
- Volume not created
- DDNS
- LDAP: When your TNAS acts as an LDAP client.
- File Services: When SMB/AFP/NFS is enabled, any SMB/CIFS broadcast packets may prevent the system from going into hibernation, including Windows Explorer running on the same network.
- NTP: When NTP service is used to synchronize with other network devices
- Thumbnails and indexing: While generating thumbnails or re-indexing multimedia files post-upgrade.
- Windows Media Player: When Windows Media Player's Network Sharing Service is enabled in the LAN.
- IPv6: When IPv6 is enabled, your TNAS might be woken up from hibernation
- VPN clients
Applications in running
- Cloud Sync
- DNS Server
- Download apps: Transmission, qBittorrent, Aria 2
- Docker
- Mail Server
- Media Server/DLNA Media Server: When DMA logging is enabled in Media Server settings.
- Plex Media Server
- Emby Media Server
- Proxy Server
- VirtualBox
- VPN Server
- WebDAV Server
- Third-Party apps: When any third-party app is running.
- USB Devices: When any USB device is attached to your TNAS.
