File "owner" is wrong and can't be changed

Films etc I load into the Plex server are being allocated my login name as owner. Plex ignores them when updating the library. All my other files have Plex as the owner and are fine. Why is this ? Can any advise how to change the owner of the file please ?

I hope I didn't misunderstand your words
Generally speaking, the owner of file/folder is the user who created or uploaded the file/folder.
If the files are in a directory where you have permissions, this should not prevent you from reading and writing them.
