Repeated External Storage Device warnings with no inserted device

Good morning all!
I have an issue which hasn't really been an issue until recently. For quite a long time now, I have received maybe 1-10 messages a day saying "System Event: USB External Storage device was abnormally ejected! The USB device must be ejected safely, otherwise data loss may occur". This is odd since, I don't think I have ever actually used the USB ports on my device, but now I need to be able to use them so that I can perform an offline backup, but the device keeps on being disconnected. If anyone has any idea how this might be able to be fixed that would be great!

What type of USB are you using? If it is a hard disk box, you can try replacing the USB cable.
Is it the same to replace the USB port? Do you have any other USB to try? Or connect USB to your computer.
Is the situation repeating connected and unconnected?

Hi Ryan, thank you for the response. The USB I wish to perform the update with is an external hard drive, but that isn't currently the issue (also yeah it works on my computer). The issue is that I have been getting these 'abnormally ejected' messages for a while now, despite having no USB device plugged in, and since updating to TOS5 now they are happening even more frequently. It looks like it is an issue with the internal boot drive that is plugged into the motherboard.

Does anyone have any idea how to prevent this from happening? Since updating to TOS5 it has only gotten worse and the constant disconnecting and reconnecting of the USB boot drive is wrecking my CPU usage.
