Cannot start either Emby or Plex

I cannot start either Emby or Plex
Three evenings ago my Plex server stopped working. I tried several times to restart it, but to no avail. The next morning it still was not working so I searched your online forums. Subsequently I followed all the steps on viewtopic.php?f=83&t=364 but to no avail.
I wondered if updating to TOS 5 would help, so did so, successfully (in so far as my data was intact). But still Plex would not start, and also a couple of other apps that I use were not supported, so after wasting several hours I downgraded again to TOS 4.2. Again, my data appears to be in tact.
However, Plex still won't start, even when I tried deleting the entire Plex Data folder for a 'clean install'.
And, to add insult to injury, my Emby server, which I maintain as a backup, now has also stopped and will not start again.
Have searched and searched, but help online is very sketchy.
I submitted a report to Terramaster's technical support, both from within the app (the interface for which is so hokey that I can't tell whether it's submitted or not) and by email, but have not even recieved an acknolwedgement, let alone reply.
So hoping someone here might be able to help. Have noticed a couple of similar posts on here, that have been locked without a solution being published.
As you might imagine, I've wasted a few days on this now and am at my wits end, running out of ideas (other than to go out and buy a Synology NAS...)
