I have just set up the D5-300C in Raid 1.

When copying data to the new Raid 1 both drives are flashing green. when I read from the drive only one drive is flashing green is this normal for a raid 1 drive?

Yes, it is normal.
when you write data to a RAID 1, you need to write on both drives. when you read from a RAID 1, you will read from the one more responsive.
