The system resources view has been showing over 50% cpu usage for almost a week. According to the "top" command, 1 cpu core is consumed 100% by a mediaindex task:

Yesterday I received a bunch of notification emails that "Media indexing is complete" and what was updated:

Code: Select all

4:08 PM - A total of 28 media indexes were added, including 18 pictures, 0 audio files, 0 videos and 10 documents
4:34 PM - A total of 34 media indexes were added, including 15 pictures, 0 audio files, 0 videos and 19 documents
4:45 PM - A total of 26 media indexes were added, including 16 pictures, 0 audio files, 0 videos and 10 documents.
5:06 PM - A total of 34 media indexes were added, including 15 pictures, 0 audio files, 0 videos and 19 documents.
5:10 PM - A total of 1 media indexes were added, including 1 pictures, 0 audio files, 0 videos and 0 documents.
There have been no notifications since so what is it doing? Should I just disable it and enable it every so often?

If you keep copying files to your TNAS, mediaindex will scan those files and add them to the database.

I don't know if it was me changing the configuration or the configuration itself but I have a Canon multi-function printer/scanner for which I created a new user "Canon". I must not have been thinking clearly at the time but instead of adding the shared folder that is the destination of the scanned files, I somehow was able to add folder "/homes/Canon". Once I removed it and added the proper folder, the cpu usage did go down to 0%.

Now if I try to select "/homes/Canon" it almost always adds it as "/home/Canon" (without the "s", as it should) except for one time it did add it again as "/homes/Canon". I removed it again and for the life of me I can't repeat it.

Regardless, mediaindex is no longer consuming 100% cpu.

For days mediaindex has been consuming cpu resources even though there's literally nothing for it to do.

I'm just going to disable it and rely on Plex.

This has been observed and is being fixed.
