I had assumed from the name and the requirement for indexing that this is a full text retrieval app. But as far as I can make out, it only searches on metadata like Title, Time modified, Size and so forth.

Or am I missing something?

I'd like to know the difference between the function "Media Index" and the app "Terra Search"..

The media index is used to retrieve media files for applications such as multimedia servers and TerraPhoto. Through Terra Seach, you can search for files or even images containing specific text content.
