Do I fully have to load all bays? MAC M1

I have a Mac Studio.
Will I have to load all 5 trays with drives to start, or can I instal 2 or 3 and add later?
Will later additions just be added to the total volumen?

Yes, you can configure a RAID 1 or RAID 5 with 2 or 3 drives, and add more drives to expand the volume capacity later.
