Best way to access TNAS data through internet

Hi everyone. Since I bought my TNAS I always used SFTP to reach my data trough the internet. In the latests update, I think there was a bug that hid user dir in a SFTP connection. At this point i downgraded TOS at 4.2.08 that apparently is the latest version that allow to access my personal home folder through SFTP. Now i read some article about deadbolt ransomware attack and i’m really worried about my data. There a safe way to continue access my user folder (and other shared folder) through the internet, eventually upgrading my TOS version? Thanks in advance.
