Hi folks,

I'm t my wits end and could do with some help as I've not been able to find anything with this problem.

About a month ago my NAS started acting up and disconnecting from my network every 10 mins or so. After a lot of chat with tech support they have sent me a new NAS. After a lot of attempts to reinstall TOS, I get stuck at the same issue and straight out of the box the replacement is doing the same.
After it starts and checks the drives it then goes to the Admin settings page.
I cannot get past this page. I can receive a code no problem, but when I click next nothing happens. This was the same issue I had with the old one and I'm now starting to think I must be doing something wrong. Also I have put the drives from the old NAS into the new one.

I have tried starting without the drives in at which point it asked me to add the drives, it then checked them, installed the newest TOS and then back to that page.

Any help is greatly appreciated as I'm losing my mind

It's always risky to put your old drives into a new system. Did you backup your data before trying the swap? Do you have a spare disk that you can try setting the new unit up with? Since you experience the same problem in 2 different machines the fault is following your drives.

I may have a drive I can try. I never had the chance to back any of it up as I never got a chance to get back into the drives.

Do you think that an issue on the drives would cause that admin screen to not go any further?

Depending on whether you were running EXT4 or BTRFS and RAID or not, I would first try to read and copy your data on another non-TOS machine. There are some EXT4 utilities for windows (if you don't have any Linux machines) and you could connect your TOS drives with a SATA cable.

While you're connected to a different machine, I'd also run a deep drive check to make sure that TOS didn't miss a drive error and let you build your file system on a damaged drive.

I would guess that there's a 99% likelihood that TOS is going to require those drives to be formatted so make sure you take care of your data before attempting connecting them to the F2-210.

I just had an idea before I hit send on this.

Since you have the machine running on a different drive, connect the suspect drive via SATA cable to a USB port on the F2-210 and you should be able to retrieve your data if it is readable. You can retrieve it to the drive you have installed now or across the network to another machine.

Thanks for this help. So my Data is safe and I have formatted one of the drives and tested it in the NAS. It checks the drive, installs the latest TOS and then reboots and just sits at the loading screen. There is loads of Hardrive activity, but its been on this screen for about 30 mins now. Because you have replaced a new machine, but now the same failure still occurs. I preliminarily infer that these failures are related to your hard drive. It is recommended that you replace a new healthy hard drive and try again.

How long did it take to get TOS installed and running with your spare drive? (If I remember correctly, my tos installs only take about 5 minutes but the drive prep and file system creation can take overnight) How big is the drive you're trying now compared to the drive that you have with TOS successfully installed? My 6tb drives took more than 50% longer to format than my 4tb drives. I probably agree with TM that the drive has a problem. Can you still run and access the system with your spare drive installed? Can you sata connect the "problem" drive to your system while it's running on the spare drive? Try to format it as ext4 while it's sata connected. Have you tried to hot-add the drive while the system is running on the spare drive? On a separate note, I used to have occasional "disappearances" from the network until I gave the TOS systems reserved IP addresses on the network.
