Linux/ other OS for Plex? - F40-210

Hello,
I am not sure where to post this, so will ask here...
I only want to use my Terramaster F4-210 for Plex - to have all my media on one place and to be able to access it wherever I go. I am having constant issues with Plex on Terramaster and I think the issues are widely known on the forums. I have reached out for support but am told something like my "hard drives are the issue," "TOS needs to be re-installed," or "Plex needs to be updated."
Whatever the reason, I am having issues with Plex and how it works in TOS, and being as this is the only reason I bought the F4-210, I would like to get it up and running.
Is there a way to uninstall TOS all together and to install something like Linux Kubuntu?
If not, is there a way to attach the F4-210 to an existing PC or Mac and to set up the network from there? Essentially, using the F4-210 as a RAID array and network it through another computer, so I can install the Plex app claim my plex server from the Pc/Mac?
