Other than terrramaster official ram, which is the compatible ram for terramaster f5-422? The requirement is DDRL 12600 11-11-11 -14 1.35v SODIMM ram 512 x8

https://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Hard ... s-upgrade/

I don't know whether the single rank or the dual rank from Crucial works.

CRUCIAL 4GB (1X 4GB) DDR3L-1600 PC3L-12800 1.35V / 1.5V SR X8 204-PIN SODIMM RAM MODULE
SKU: CT51264BF160BJ (single rank) or

CRUCIAL 4GB (1X 4GB) DDR3L-1600 PC3L-12800 1.35V / 1.5V DR X8 204-PIN SODIMM RAM MODULE
SKU: CT51264BF160B (dual rank)

I tried two CT16G4SFRA32A from Crucial - working both great in the F4-423.
I have F2-423 and I tired upgrade RAM with CT16G4SFRA32A module. Unfortunately it doesn't work properly (OS doesn't booted). I attached the NAS to a monitor using HDMI and enter to device BIOS. BIOS detected both memory modules with corresponding size. But when OS booting I saw message:

Code: Select all

checkSystem.go:80 []string{"000", "F2423", "CN36", "2000", "N"}
[info]: 760098023 don't start with 9236!!!
After that message system get shutdown signal and go to reboot. After remove third-party RAM module message not appears and OS booted OK.
I assume vendor locked memory programmatically when OS booting up. I think is a bad way for make extra-sale with RAM modules at over price

Anybody know how fix it?

I confirm that terramaster does not allow to use other ram. I've tried many with the same features as the original, but none of them worked. My nas also won't boot. Terramaster doesn't want you to buy ram outside of theirs. I've written several times here, but it didn't help

It is not possible to boot with TOS and Third Party RAM, or it is not possible in general? I bought a F2-423 and 16GB RAM from Crucial as well and my NAS does not boot. But I don't get any output on the Monitor. When the RAM Module is installed, I don't get a "beep" when pressing the power button. When I remove the RAM module, it beeps and I see something on the screen.

RAM is a key component of NAS, unverified RAM may cause system crashes, and incompatible RAM may even cause the system to fail to boot normally. In order to ensure the normal use of the device, it is recommended to use the RAM officially designated by TerraMaster.

Same here, I feel tricked into upgrading to a new F2-423 after my old F2-421 failed after a little more than 2 years, but I thought, ok, budget machine, I can upgrade it and surely recoup the loss.
Tried:
2x 8 Gb Hynix 2400
2x 8 Gb Kingmax 2400
2x 16 GB Kingmax 3200
All are properly recognised in BIOS, but TOS fails to load.

In my case:

Code: Select all

[Error]: string{"000", "F2423", "CN36", "2000", "N"}
[info]: 1437475152 don't start with 9236!!!
Come on, this is such a crappy move trom Terramaster, it's not worth recommending or simply buying these machines now, even with the price premium of their competitors you can recoup the difference simply by using common ram modules.

Also, they never stated WE WILL ENFORCE THE USE OF OUR RAM, they only recommended using them, even on their page here: https://www.terra-master.com/us/compatibility/ RECOMMENDED! WTH Terramaster??
I'm now conteplating simply sending the machine back as it is simply a bad choice for consumer use.

I've sourced also
2x Hynix 4GB 2400T HMA851S6AFRN6N, single sided
which is the same as Terramaster RAM specced below on the recommended page. The T means it follows exactly JEDEC standards.
If it doesn't work then it's pretty obvious that everything is blocked.

TerraMaster
A-SRAMD4-4G
4G
DDR4 SO-DIMM 2400Mhz
F2-223/F2-423/F4-223/F4-423/T6-423/T9-423/T12-423/U4-423/U8-423/U12-423
Recommended

Also the comment that in June Crucial CT16G4SFRA32A worked and in September it does not, it suggests it's a change related to TOS 5 as basically F2-423 is the same as F4-423 or you simply use the 2 bay machine as a test bed.

I confirm, I also purchased F2-423 and not one RAM module fit. TerraMaster disable this memory check, what a mockery of clients. The second option is to install third-party operating systems.

As I have said at the beginning of this thread I have un endorsed RAM in both my machines, and they work fine, but mine are over two years old, so maybe TM have now introduced something that throws a wobbly if it detects a non TM RAM, A bit like some HDDs are not well tolerated which I think is software induced, this is the sort of practice that will push more and more of us to start using third party operating systems.

I also have non-TerraMaster RAM in both of my NAS's, a F5-221 and a F4-220. Both have been working reliably for some time now.
