M1 Macs: how are those drivers coming along?

Hi TerraMaster,

So, how are those M1 Mac drivers coming along? It's almost the end of March and, as I read in another thread, we're approaching the predicted deadline for those drivers.

There are a lot of M1 users with non-functional thunderbolt enclosures that we'd really like to start using!

I've just tried, but couldn't get it to work. I can't get to see the version number and my M1 Mac mini can't see the drives. The App reports the connection has been interrupted'

Here's the Terminal output:

Last login: Fri Mar 26 15:52:13 on console
mike@Mac-mini-M1-5 ~ % sudo su
Password:
sh-3.2# kextstat | grep high*
Executing: /usr/bin/kmutil showloaded
No variant specified, falling back to release
sh-3.2#

Have to say it works ok for me. Deinstalled the old, reinstalled the new, restarted and there were my disks. Happy days...
M1 mini.

OK. I finally got it working on my M1 Mac mini - Thanks.

Learnings:

1. No T2 Security chip on the M1 Mac Mini - so that bit is easy.
2. My experience differs from your instructions in a couple of places:

Firstly here in Terminal during the uninstall of the old drivers: See the line: Not rebuilding KC for arch: 'arm64e

Last login: Sun Mar 28 21:06:58 on console
mike@Mac-mini-M1-5 ~ % sudo rm –rf /Library/Extensions/HighPointRR.kext
Password:
rm: –rf: No such file or directory
rm: /Library/Extensions/HighPointRR.kext: is a directory
mike@Mac-mini-M1-5 ~ % sudo kextcache -i /
Executing: /usr/bin/kmutil install --volume-root / --check-rebuild
Not rebuilding KC for arch: 'arm64e'
kmutil done
mike@Mac-mini-M1-5 ~ %

The second and major difference is regarding section 4.5 - Security

a. No pop-up window
b. Instead, the M1 required me to do a restart in recovery mode to reach the security settings that enable extensions.
c. In my case, I had another unrelated audio app that (unknown to me) had been held waiting - and was initially blocking the HighPoint from continuing.

As a thought, for the M1, it could be easier to change the security options earlier than 4.5, then presumably the software would install in one go - rather than be held. (It's just a thought).

Once that was done - all went well - and it works!!!

Just ran the upgrade to 11.2.3. Drives disappeared. Reset security again and reinstalled the app, all now ok again.

Works for me, yay!

Interestingly, I didn't have to do any booting into recovery mode. I just installed the driver, restarted, and it mounts my disks.

Terramaster: what changes do you expect between this version of the driver, and the final version? Should I be using my thunderbolt enclosure without any fear of data loss?

Hi Terramaster,

Do you have a final version of this driver out yet? I get the occasional kernel panic when using my enclosure with the driver you linked to earlier in this discussion thread (I have to keep the enclosure turned off most of the time, and can only use it when I really need to access a disk, otherwise I'm guaranteed to crash the system).

The above is the final version at the moment.
