Packet loss

Hi,
Ill-advisedly, I bought an F2-220 as a NAS to stream my music library from and to store photos and videos I've acquired.
I say 'ill-advisedly' as I have no working knowledge of Linux, or indeed any kind of coding or use of computers outside of apps with good GUIs.
Listening to music works ok on the whole but I can't watch HD video on my TV (via Fire Stick) without the picture freezing.
Using Fing to ping the drive I see regular packet loss (23.3% last time I checked) and from looking around it seems this might be causing the freezing.
I understand there might be a port conflict, but I don't really know how to fix it.
Can anyone help me configure my home network in order to fix this?

Hi,
First, please check whether the network display in the control panel is normal and turn off the Dos protection.

If there is still packet loss, you can look for possible causes online and check the network.
You can try to use other software to play high-definition video.

thanks - turning off the Dos protection stopped the packet loss.
Unfortunately the video still won't play properly so it seems packet loss isn't what's causing that.
I'm trying to play 1 minute 1080 clips on Plex and stream from the NAS to a Fire Stick.
The video plays for approximately 6 seconds then buffers for 6 seconds etc.
What can I do to fix this?

By the way, using Emby instead of Plex is even worse. More buffering, less playing.
VLC and Quicktime Player on Mac similarly will not play them.
HD video (1080) just won't play for more than a few seconds then buffers for a few seconds.
Any video format below 1920x1080 plays fine. It's just these 1080 ones that will not play.
All H264 mp4s.
Is there something I can do?

Hi,
1.What is your network? The speed of the network will affect your video playback
2 HD video is affected by decoding, please check the decoding settings

Just to add, I use Plex without issue.
I can down sample 1080p to 720 and deliver over the internet without issue.
My BB speed is 20Mb up (60mb down), for comparison. It also works fine over 4G.
This is on an F5-221

1. It's a BT Internet (UK) domestic wi-fi network. Relatively new hub. One user (me). If i ping it with Fing the average ping is 9.4 ms.
2. None of the following platforms allow me to watch the HD videos without buffering: Plex, Emby, Quicktime Player, VLC.
This makes me think the issue is with the server and not the platform - please let me know if you think this sounds right.
Transcoding settings in Plex are all default. All the videos are H264 encoded and they all play fine except the HD (1080) ones.
Where might the stream be being held up?

Should I be configuring Plex to transcode 1080 videos to 720? (I know Plex plays 720 videos on my network with no problems). If so, where in the settings can I instruct Plex to do so?

Ha, I am Sky TV, so I am hanging off OpenReach too.
The 4G is on Tesco Mobile (O2 backbone).
If you log in to
https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/ then go to settings (top right), followed by Plex Web-Quality (on the left), you can set the rate.
I have all three options ticked, and Quality set yo "2Mbps, 720p" for the Internet Streaming.
You could keep trying lower, to see if it is the streaming that is the issue.
Hopefully that will make a difference.
