Strange gremlin, short story i heard a noise sounded like the nas drive fan grinding so i turned it off (noise carried on and realised it was outside)

so i turned it back on, booted up perfectly just now i don't have any HDD lights and it doesn't flash when accessed

just to point out it is operating perfectly so no cause for alarm just a strange gremlin of the F2-210

Hi,
Is your fan still loud after restarting? Some hard disks will make a grinding sound when reading or writing or building an array.
You can try to see if it sounds when the hard disk is not inserted.
Is the current system of your F2-210 still TOS 4.2.08? Have you done anything recently?

It was building work outside making the noise not the nas drive, sorry thought I said that

It is working perfectly and silent as there was nothing wrong with it to start with just no hdd lights following the reboot :)

Yes still running 4.2.08 and everything working like shares and DLNA etc

OK,
It may be that the nginx service has not been activated successfully.
If you encounter it again and restarting the device is useless, you can log in to the background and use the following command to manually start the service.
/etc/init.d/nginx stop
/etc/init.d/nginx start

just so you know this doesnt resolve it, the HDD light is still not on, it does warn me that the "ssl" directive is deprecated, use the "listen .. ssl" directive instead in /etc/nginx/nginx.conf:58

this is getting a bit silly now, so i have rebooted the nas drive, i now have the hdd light working, but my lan light is now off !!!

the nas drive is working perfectly and is on the network but theres just no consistency with the ability to control the lights on the front of it

Can the network light be on when you are not plugging in the hard disk?

i dont understand the question, i am not unplugging the hard drive (it is permantely in the bay)

yet another reboot of the nas drive now all the correct lights are on it just seems to get confused from time to time on what lights need to be on or off on boot up
