Posted: 04 Feb 2021, 14:57
Applicable model: all TNAS models.
Applicable RAID mode: JBOD, RAID5 and RAID6.
If you want to add more drives into your existing RAID 5 or RAID 6 to expand total capacity without losing data, please follow the instructions below. For example, if you have TNAS model like F5-221, you have three drives running RAID 5, you want to add one more drive to the RAID, you can just add a new drive, you do not need to shutdown the device or backup your data, you can just do this when the device is online.
Note: for RAID5 and RAID6, the capacity of the added HDD should be no less than the capacity of the minimum HDD in the existing storage pool.
Steps:
1. Boot your TNAS up and log into TOS webpage.
2. Insert the new HDD at power-on stage and go to TOS Control panel - Storage manager- Storage pool- click Edit, and select "Add hard drives to RAID" from the list, check the added HDD and follow the wizard to complete.
3. Go to Volume - Edit to add the capacity of the volume.
The number at Free capacity is the capacity you can add for your existing volume.
The number at Volume capacity is the capacity of your existing volume, the capacity of your volume could only be added but not decreased.
Note:
Only one HDD could be added at a time.
