I have made two updates to the TNAS, and after each update the settings reset. In particular (from what I've seen so far) you reset user settings, ports and permissions for SSH. What am I doing wrong?

We usually recommend backing up the system configuration before updating and restoring the system configuration after the update is successful.

You can also backup your users/group setting in contrl panel.
