can i ask does the VMs app support USB passthrough for a HDMI video capture card?
plugged into a windows 11 PC it works absolutely fine, but unsure on the device to pass through so i was just wondering if its something you would have expected to work or not?
there is an empty entry row in the USB devices in the VMS app when the adapter is plugged in (not there when its not plugged in), is it worth me looking into or are you saying it wouldnt be designed to work? i know the Virtual Box usb passthroughs didnt work

You can try configuring the device under PCI Devices when creating or editing the virtual machine to see if it takes effect.
Please give it a try and let us know if the VM detects it properly. Looking forward to your feedback!

thanks, after a couple of reboots, i finally got it to work the VMs app still shows it as the blank USB device but windows now detects it as a USB Video device and i can see the stream so atleast video wise its working, however having trouble with the audio stream as its not detecting a soundcard but that could be more to do with the VM setup / RDP so still playing around with it, probably have better luck using the VNC connection as im a little concerned about processing power / graphics throttling things (ram wise its got 16gb allocated to the VM so not short on that side)

just an update on this while i have managed to get it to work both video and audio, however the hardware both the F2-423 and F2-424 just arent sufficient enough to enable recording at a suitable HD resolutions and they drop the FPS and audio becomes choppy, if i drop the source down to 720 x 576 i.e SD resolution then its fine and would work but the HD stream seems to just overwhelm the hardware, the F2-424 only has USB 3 ports from the spec and i have been sure i have set the passthrough to be USB3, the actual only hard drive in the F2-424 is a M2 SSD so thats more than capable of doing this, all i am down to is the fact its a VM running on the machine giving the issue rather than doing this with a native app
My mini PC (cheap bosgame one) just simply allows 1920 x 1080 holding a constant 60FPS without any issues so will have to carry on using that for my purpose, suspect its either the processor or graphics capability in the NAS drives holding them back
i realise this was not the intended purpose of the NAS drives so no arguments about them and everything has its limits, just a shame as the neater solution would be to offload this task to one of the "servers" in the cabinet rather than occupying the PC i'm using
