Help needed: F2-221 to F2-425 migration with RAID 1
I’m asking for help here because TerraMaster support chat was unable to give me clear instructions for my situation.
I currently have an F2-221 running TOS 5 (it cannot be upgraded to TOS 6 due to its BIOS).
The NAS has 2 drives configured as RAID 1:
- Drive 1: has bad/damaged sectors
- Drive 2: healthy and currently contains the RAID 1 data
- Drive 3: brand-new replacement drive
I have also purchased an F2-425, and I want to move everything to the new NAS while avoiding any data loss.
I’m unsure about the correct order of operations. For example, should I:
Option 1:
Create a new RAID 1 using Drive 2 + Drive 3, and use Drive 1 to install TOS on the new F2-425. But if I do this, how can I then create a direct copy of all the files from Drive 2 to the new RAID?
Option 2:
Use Drive 3 to install TOS on the new F2-425, and then use Drive 2 to recreate the RAID 1 on the new NAS.
Or is there a completely different and safer procedure?
I would really appreciate step-by-step instructions on the correct order of operations.
My main priority is to preserve all the data currently stored on Drive 2 and avoid relying on the drive with bad sectors any more than necessary.
Thank you!
