Thanks again for the patch. I have done a fair bit of testing and learned a couple of things along the way.

To start, let me reiterate the issue: when on a UPS, when the power goes out and the UPS kicks in, the NAS shuts down according to set policy as expected. However, if power is reapplied, it does not restart even when configured to do so. This happens if the UPS is at 99% capacity or 5% capacity.

Through my testing, I have narrowed down the problem. Prior to patching, I confirmed that this only occurs when the LAN connections remained powered. That is, when the power goes out but the power continues in the ethernet cables to the LAN connections at the NAS, it will not restart. This would be a common case for people that have both NAS and network on battery backup.

After applying the patch, this behavior did not change (ie it still doesn’t restart). So that patch does not address the original issue.

However, if the power to the LAN connections goes out (ie. the battery backup is depleted for the network as well as the NAS), the NAS will restart when power is reapplied. That leads me to believe that the “Auto Power-On” function is being triggered by power at the LAN connection. This behavior is consistent pre and post patching.

So I'm afraid that this issue is not solved.

We will try the phenomenon you mentioned in the laboratory and continue to pay attention to this issue. Thank you.

Hello, your understanding is completely correct. Specifically, when mains power fails, even if the power is restored, the NAS device will not auto power-on—whether the UPS has 95% or 5% battery remaining. This is because the UPS continues to supply power to the NAS. The NAS will only auto power-on when the UPS battery is fully depleted and stops supplying power to the device, and mains power returns.

At present, our functional design of UPS is as follows.

OK - just to play this back: in the case of a power outage where the UPS is not 100% depleted when power is restored, if the NAS shut down per its policy it must be manually turned back on? Can you see how that makes unattended operation problematic?

Yes, in this case you can only turn it on manually.

Hello!
In an unattended operation environment, you can configure the TNAS device to shut down automatically only when the UPS (uninterruptible power supply) battery is fully depleted. This way, when the mains power is restored, the TNAS device can automatically start up and resume operation.

OK. To make sure I've got it, the appropriate setting in the control panel is shut down on low battery (there is no "fully depleted") option. I assume then if power is restored between "low battery" and "fully depleted", then it will not automatically start-up and resume. Hopefully that is a relatively short time...
